born on February 8, 1847 at Øye gård (farm) in
Lærdal, Sogn og Fjordane, on the Sognefjord on Norway's western coast,
&
JOHANNAH BREDESDATTER ERICKSON (of) BAKKEN,
born on September 24, 1850 to ethnic Finns at Bakken gård,
in Hoff, Hedmark, in southeast Norway near the Swedish border
Louis and Johannah met in Wisconsin, where they married a few years later in 1872, had their first child in 1873, and then traveled by covered wagon to
Dakota Territory, where they homesteaded in Yankton County and raised their family.
The Louis Petersons were founding members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jamesville township, built two miles west of Midway on land donated by Louis for the church, cemetery and parsonage.
